Elements of Writing..
I think that the setting of Rumpelstiltskin significantly shapes the story because if it had a long, drawn out introduction instead of setting it up short and to the point, the meaning wouldn't be as great or the lessons as real. It is a unique tale in that, although there are many magical elements to it, you feel empathy for the girl and it is fairly easy to imagine yourself in her situation. It is not intricately written and is rather short, but in the prompt setting you can see more of reality in the story than in other Grimm tales.
I also think that the plot of the story really contributes to its strength. It has always been a fairy tale that stuck in my mind because of the major turning point in the plot where she discovers his name. Instead of having this reversal, it could have just ended in him taking the child away and a moral lesson could be learned in the somber ending. But the tale switches the power around so that despite all odds, the Queen is able to keep her child and not worry about Rumpelstiltskin anymore.
